behind the lens of blink & blaze: mery fernandez. grown up on the Atlantic coast of Costa da Morte, Galicia (Spain) — a land shaped by wind & long winters. The ocean was always present, influencing the way she sees and feels the world. She studied Audiovisual Communication, where she focused on photography and art direction.
Travel became an essential part of her story early on. Moving between different countries and cultures shaped her way of observing: how nautre & people move, how light falls, how the atmosphere of a place can tell a story. For the past six years, she has been based in Australia, continuing to explore and document life around different locations in the Pacific.
working with digital and film, Her photography is guided by composition, light, and movement — sometimes quiet and still, sometimes dynamic and fluid. She sees photography as an artistic way of translating how she perceives the world, allowing what her eyes notice to become something that can be shared. Alongside her documentary sensitivity, she also experiments: playing with texture, blur, and the rhythm of natural light to let the image feel like something alive, not just captured.
The ocean remains a central reference — not only as a subject, but as a way of understanding presence, rhythm, and impermanence. Around it, she finds inspiration in everyday life, people, landscapes, and in the small gestures that happen without staging.
Mery’s approach is intuitive and real. She is not interested in trends or polished perfection, but in images that feel honest — moments that appear naturally and dissolve just as naturally. Her work aims to stay close to life as it is: unpolished, simple, and full of movement.
